An attractive Victorian copy of Worthies of the World, edited by H. W. Dulcken, Ph.D., and published by Ward, Lock & Co., London.

This substantial illustrated volume presents historical and critical sketches of many of history's most influential figures, including statesmen, explorers, military leaders, monarchs, philosophers and religious reformers. Each biography is accompanied by detailed narrative and numerous engraved portrait illustrations, making the work both an informative reference and an attractive display piece.

The book remains in its original publisher's cloth binding with black leather spine and corners. Although showing honest wear from use, it retains its original character and is complete throughout. Of particular interest is the original binder's label for W. E. Horton, Bookbinder, 56 Weybosset Street, Providence, Rhode Island, together with a handwritten contents index added by a previous owner to the front endpaper.

A good example of a late nineteenth-century illustrated historical reference work, ideal for collectors of Victorian books, decorative libraries and historical literature.
