Originally compiled by John Howie, The Scots Worthies is one of the classic works of Scottish religious history, recording the lives of the Covenanters, Reformers and Protestant martyrs from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This expanded Victorian edition includes numerous additional biographies, historical notes and engraved illustrations.
Bound in its original half-leather binding with gilt decoration and raised bands, the volume retains an attractive period appearance. It includes several engraved plates together with the large folding facsimile of the National Covenant, making it an excellent reference work as well as a desirable display piece.
A particularly appealing copy for collectors of Scottish history, ecclesiastical works and nineteenth-century books.
