A scarce Official Guide to Summer Tours in Scotland – Glasgow to the Highlands, produced for David MacBrayne's Steamers, dating to circa 1881.
This attractive Victorian guidebook was issued to promote travel aboard David MacBrayne's famous fleet, including the steamers Columba, Iona, and others serving Scotland's west coast and Highlands. It contains sailing schedules, tourist routes, fares, maps, illustrations and descriptions of destinations including Oban, Inverness, Skye, Mull, Iona, Staffa, Glencoe, Loch Etive, Loch Lomond and the Caledonian Canal.
The rear advertisement is dated 1881, allowing the guide to be accurately attributed to that year. These ephemeral travel guides were intended for practical use and relatively few survive in such complete condition today, making them increasingly desirable to collectors of Scottish transport history, maritime ephemera and Victorian travel.
