A scarce copy of The Post Office Annual Glasgow Directory for 1844–45, the Seventeenth Publication, printed in Glasgow by Edward Khull, 29 Dunlop Street, in 1844.

These annual directories are among the most important primary reference works for nineteenth-century Scottish social and commercial history. Produced for the use of the General Post Office, they record thousands of residents, merchants, manufacturers, tradesmen, public institutions and businesses operating throughout Glasgow during one of the city's most significant periods of industrial expansion.

This example carries the contemporary ownership inscription of R. Foot, 18th July 1844, providing a direct link to its early ownership shortly after publication. The volume has since been professionally rebound in an attractive half leather binding with cloth boards, raised bands and a gilt-lettered morocco title label. The text remains remarkably clean and fresh throughout.

An excellent reference work for genealogists, local historians and collectors of nineteenth-century Scottish books, offering a fascinating snapshot of Glasgow immediately before the city's rapid Victorian growth.
