A decorative Continental side chair dating from the late Victorian to early 20th century, featuring finely executed floral marquetry throughout. The shaped back incorporates an elegant pierced splat decorated with an urn, bird and flowering foliage, echoed by further marquetry to the seat rail and cabriole front legs.

The chair has a well-proportioned silhouette and retains a later geometric upholstered drop-in seat that complements the warm tones of the timber. The front legs terminate in carved ball and claw feet, which have been professionally spliced onto the chair at a later date, creating an attractive and sympathetic enhancement. A decorative chair that would work equally well in a hallway, bedroom or as an occasional chair within a traditional or contemporary interior.
