In Praise of the Corner Cupboard (Yes, Really)
Corner cupboards are one of those pieces of furniture that people love to dismiss as “old fashioned”. Which is odd, because they solve a very real problem most homes have: the awkward, nothing-fits-here corner.
Personally, I’m a big fan. I have three corner cupboards in my own house, which may sound excessive until you live with one and realise how useful they are. After that, it’s a slippery slope.
The Art of Using Dead Corners
Corners are notorious wasted space. Too small for a sideboard, too obvious to ignore. A corner cupboard slots neatly into place and suddenly that dead corner is doing some actual work.
They give you proper storage without jutting out into the room, which means you get space back rather than losing it. It’s furniture that behaves itself.
Surprisingly Roomy (Like the TARDIS, but Wooden)
Despite their polite footprint, corner cupboards can hold a remarkable amount. Crockery, books, glassware, linens, collections you definitely meant to curate - it all fits.
They go up rather than out, which is something modern houses (and modern storage) often forget to do.

They’re Actually Really Beautiful
A good antique corner cupboard has quiet confidence. Nicely shaped cornices, panelled doors, soft curves, and timber that’s had a couple of centuries to settle into itself.
Even closed, they add character. Open one, and it feels slightly theatrical, like you’re revealing something important, even if it’s just the mugs.

“Out of Fashion” or Just Ignored?
Corner cupboards have been labelled unfashionable, but I suspect they’ve simply been overshadowed by fitted units and flat-pack solutions that all look the same.
As interiors move back towards individuality and sustainability, the corner cupboard is quietly waiting in the wings, wondering what all the fuss was about.
They Work Almost Anywhere
These aren’t just for kitchens or dining rooms. Corner cupboards work beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, even bathrooms (painted examples are especially good there).
If you have a corner and a storage problem, and most of us do, a corner cupboard is probably the answer.

A Sensible, Sustainable Choice
Antique furniture is about as sustainable as it gets. These cupboards were made to last, have already proven their point, and don’t require instructions written in twelve languages.
They’re solid, useful, and unapologetically themselves - rather like me.
Time for a Revival
Corner cupboards are practical, handsome, and criminally undervalued. They make use of space we usually waste and do it with a bit of charm and dignity.
I have several beautiful antique examples available in-store and online, each one ready to rescue an empty corner and prove that corner cupboards never really went out of style, we just stopped paying attention.
And honestly, once you’ve got one, don’t be surprised if you end up with three.
